The main thing to know

KMMS does not simply pick students with the highest grades or UCAT scores.

For many applicants, KMMS compares your grades with the average performance of your school.

KMMS calls this “Contextualise Everyone.”

KMMS Entry Requirements

KMMS GCSE Requirements

You need at least:

5 GCSEs at grades 9–6 / A*–B

These must include:

English Language Maths Biology Chemistry Physics

Double Science can replace the separate sciences.

Meeting the minimum does not guarantee an interview.

KMMS A-Level Requirements

For post-A-level applicants, the minimum is:

You must take: Biology and/or Chemistry.

If you only take one, another subject must be one of:

Physics Maths Psychology Computer Science

Critical Thinking and General Studies are not accepted.

You need Biology or Chemistry.

Does KMMS Use Predicted Grades?

KMMS says predicted grades are not used in selection. For a normal Year 13 applicant, achieved GCSE results are used during contextual selection. So predicted A*A*A* does not automatically make you stronger than another applicant.

KMMS Contextual Admissions

KMMS looks at how well you performed compared with your school. In simple terms:

KMMS asks: “How well did you do in your school?”

Student A

Gets very high grades at a school where very high grades are normal.

Student B

Gets slightly lower grades at a school where average results are much lower.

KMMS may view Student B as performing more strongly relative to their school. This is called relative attainment.

How Competitive Is KMMS Medicine?

KMMS receives around

But places are not the same as offers. KMMS gives more offers than places because not every student accepts.

What UCAT score do you need for KMMS?

2027 entry

No confirmed KMMS UCAT cut-off for 2027.

KMMS sets a threshold each year. Previous cut-offs should not be treated as guaranteed future cut-offs.

2490 + SJT Band 3 or better

For Groups A and B. But this is not the 2027 cut-off.

KMMS UCAT Scoring

The current UCAT cognitive score is:

900–2700

Verbal Reasoning Decision Making Quantitative Reasoning

Situational Judgement is scored separately as Band 1–4. Old KMMS UCAT scores from the previous /3600 system should not be compared directly with current scores.

Does KMMS Need a High UCAT?

You need to pass the threshold. But KMMS does not simply rank everyone from highest UCAT to lowest. Once you pass the threshold, another selection stage follows.

Simple version

UCAT gets you through the gate. It does not win the whole application.

Does KMMS Use the Personal Statement?

Yes, but it depends on your applicant group.

For standard Groups A and B, KMMS publicly describes Stage 2b as academic contextualisation. KMMS does not publish a general personal statement weighting for these applicants.

For applicants where reliable school data cannot be used, KMMS says the personal statement and reference are important.

Do not just list work experience. Show what you learnt.

“I shadowed a doctor.”

Better: explain what you noticed

  • A doctor still protects confidentiality after a patient leaves.
  • A doctor still speaks respectfully around colleagues.
  • A doctor stays professional throughout the working day.

KMMS MMI Interview

The KMMS MMI is different.

KMMS says its MMI is considerably different from most UK medical-school interviews. It also says some previous applicants found normal school or commercial MMI preparation unhelpful for the KMMS process.

This does not mean:Do not prepare. It means:Do not prepare like a robot.

What Does the KMMS MMI Test?

KMMS publicly says it looks for:

Previous KMMS MMIs used:

KMMS MMI Preparation

Do Not Memorise Answers

Know your ideas. Do not learn full speeches. Prepare:

  • experiences
  • lessons
  • values
  • reasons for Medicine
  • examples

Then practise speaking naturally.

KMMS Communication

Good communication is simple. Do not use big words just to sound clever.

Listen → Understand → Ask → Respond → Check

KMMS Problem Solving

KMMS has previously used problem analysis and data handling stations. Practise asking:

  • What do I know?
  • What is the problem?
  • What matters most?
  • What information is missing?
  • What would I do next?

Roleplay has been a publicly listed historical KMMS station type. Do not act. Communicate.

KMMS Situational Judgement

Situational judgement has also appeared in previous KMMS MMIs. Think:

  • Is anyone in danger?
  • Who is affected?
  • What is my role?
  • What can I safely do?
  • Do I need help?
  • Does someone senior need to know?

Keep your answer realistic.

KMMS Values

KMMS looks for compassion, respect, dignity, responsibility and quality of care. Do not just say the word. Show the behaviour.

  • Respect = listening when you disagree.
  • Responsibility = admitting a mistake.
  • Compassion = noticing what another person may be going through.

KMMS Group Station

Previous KMMS MMIs included a 40-minute group station. Candidates were individually assessed. It is not about talking the most. Good teamwork can mean:

  • giving useful ideas
  • listening
  • letting others speak
  • inviting quieter people in
  • building on ideas
  • disagreeing politely
  • keeping the group focused
  • summarising
  • changing your mind when someone has a better idea

Should You Lead the Group Station?

Do not walk in thinking “I must be the leader.” That can make you dominate. Good leadership can be:

  • “We have five minutes left. Shall we summarise?”
  • “We have not heard your view yet. What do you think?”

Help the group work well.

What If a Station Goes Badly?

Move on. Do not carry one bad station into the next.

Reset. Read. Think. Start again.

When Are KMMS Interviews 2027?

Shortlisted applicants are invited to book their KMMS MMI through KentVision. Use the date given in your official KMMS invitation. Do not rely on old interview dates from previous admissions cycles.

When Does KMMS Send Offers?

KMMS sends offers in batches.

One student hearing before you does not automatically mean you have been rejected. Current KMMS guidance places offer decisions in batches during the admissions cycle.
